Grade-It is addressing one of the most challenging problems in STEM education: how to automate the assessment of quantitative constructed-response problems (QCRPs), commonly known as “word problems”. This serves two use cases — assessment (automated scoring for partial credit) and learning (timely, specific, detailed feedback so students learn to solve word problems more effectively).
Grade-It combines deep search of the solution space with analysis of algebraic equivalence to detect elements of the student’s work that correspond to steps in the grading rubric. The result: more accurate grading for partial-credit problems at higher efficiency and lower cost, and instant, specific feedback to support students’ development of the higher-order problem-solving skills that are essential in STEM.
Our platform is intuitive and easy to use. It can be used for upper-elementary classes through university-level STEM. Grade-It will soon be commercially available.
